Train me

The fact that we have a labour shortage is also something that needs addressing. Let’s steal them from other countries! Ah, that ship sailed some time ago. What? Train them ourselves! Outrageous! There is a major problem here; cost. It’s called investment, something that cannot be avoided. The prime time to do this was when interest rates were at historical lows and yet the politicians missed this one.

When we live in a world where this type of behaviour is accepted, we only have ourselves to blame. Asking that our elected representatives do their jobs is paramount. When they fail: vote them out. Yet we don’t do it, we are more likely to give them the benefit of the doubt.

If we fail to invest in our future, we will rapidly run out of road, we know this and yet allow them off the hook. When we do this we are also culpable, holding them to account creates the two-way street, they deserve to be lauded. For far too many years we have witnessed our politicians be behind the curve; followers not leaders, myopic instead of visionary. Achieving change won’t be easy but failure to try will open us to a valid criticism; why didn’t you have a go?
